Luna DeCurtis is one of the best investments you'll ever make for your child. I don't write that lightly. When my son was diagnosed ASD 2/3 when he was 18 months years old, our lives took a turn we obviously never expected. We flailed a lot, and in order to navigate the insanity of potential therapies, we decided to just do insurance-paid therapies at first. But thankfully my MIL wasn't going to sit this out. She put her own feelers out and kept hearing one name: Luna DeCurtis. Her neighbor praised Luna as a godsend. She was the reason her son was doing so well in school, so well socially. She was the reason he was DRIVING. Finally, after hearing more and more stories about Luna, I gave my MIL approval to reach out. I was tired and afraid. I had an older toddler and the weight of everything re: my son's care was getting to me. I needed help. Thank goodness I did.
Luna started working with our non-verbal son at around age 3 ½ , and has worked diligently with him ever since. He had seen other speech therapists before, but the difference was immediate to me. He LIKED to work with her. She's worked to bring him out of his shell. She worked to help him learn cause and effect through social stories. She got him out in the world, even when he was non-verbal, and connected him to other children through play. She helped with his eating, his pronunciation. How to manage his sensory issues in public, or at home. He's got a long way to go, but the immense steps he's taken with her are incredible. She's careful, compassionate, funny, and kind with my son. But she pushes him too. She's made him work hard, and we ALL have benefited from her strategies. She puts out a high bar, and he reaches it with her. It's incredible.
A few years ago we moved out of state. It was a tough decision, but we needed to do it. However, one of the hardest things was leaving in-person Luna sessions. It was one of the cons on our "pro/con board" we wrote out when we were deciding to leave. But, we haven't lost Luna entirely. For several years, she's done zoom sessions with us, to great success! While I recommend in person when possible, remote sessions are possible if you can't meet in person.

“We started working with Ms. Luna shortly after our 3 year old daughter was diagnosed with ASD. She had clearly plateaued at her regular weekly speech therapy sessions and we knew we needed a higher level of expertise and a fresh approach. At a very overwhelming and frustrating time for our family, we found hope in a new beginning and decided it was time to step outside of our comfort zone. Now about 2 years into our working relationship, we couldn’t be more appreciative of the way Ms. Luna has impacted our family. Ms. Luna’s family coaching tactic brought everyone into the mix in regards to our daughter’s progress. Not Just a Speech Therapist, but a 'Child Whisperer'
“Luna has been my son's speech therapist for 7+ years (since he was 2yr 9mos old). Very quickly she was able to form a special bond with him that persists to this day.
Luna has a special skill for figuring out what each child and family needs. For years she incorporated my other son into her sessions, and when his presence became more of a distraction she was able to seamlessly pivot and stop including him.
We have had sessions at the library, at parks (sometimes with friends, sometimes meeting strangers), at a friend's house, at a pumpkin patch, at a farm, at a bowling alley, in a store, and many more. In these various settings I have witnessed her take stock of a new person or change in situation and, within seconds, come up with a different activity or strategy for the session to incorporate said person/situation.
One of the best things about Luna is that she brings a wealth of experience from years of parenting and collaborating with different kinds of therapists (e.g. OT), and so over time she has picked up knowledge and tips that she incorporates into her sessions. Sometimes I will mention a concern or incident regarding one of my children, and she will provide an insight so profound and impressive.
In summary, if I had to summarize Luna in one sentence, it would be "Not just a Speech Therapist, but a 'Child Whisperer'.”
